Anti-Football Gamers?? 26th September

Post by CafeGames » Thu Sep 17, 2009 11:49 am

Saturday 26th September 2009, North Fitzroy Star Hotel, from 12pm.
Cost: whatever you want to spend on food n drink

On Football Grand Final Day each year me and a mate Greg try to arrange a haven for people who aren't interested in the football, who'd rather do interesting things instead of being swamped by inane chatter and tedious broadcasts about the football.

This year I'm extending the invite to any gamers who'd rather play than watch the footy.

People who'd just like to hang out, have lunch & chat are welcome.
I'll be bringing a few folks from "Cafe Games", my party/light games club, as well as some of that sort of game. Maybe Cranium ... heh

Yes, eurogamers are welcome too. Feel free to bring your own games, and to bring some friends if you want to make sure there are other eurogamers - but hey, you never know, hopefully you'll garner the interest of some of the other attendees too.

Basically all welcome, as long as there's NO FOOTY!!!

(The regular "Anti-Football League" seems to be taking a break this year)

To give us an idea of the numbers, please try to let us know if you're coming by either putting yourself on the Facebook event, or contacting Greg on greg(at)mira.net or 9584 4829

cheers
Christopher

Where's the star hotel? I used to know every pub between Gertude Street and Queen's Parade, but this doesn't ring any bells. Not a renamed one is it?

Apparently at some stage in the past it was called "Lord Jim's" (!?!)

But it's been the Star for a while.

I hear there's lots of room on "Grand Soccer Day" (or whatever it is), and best of all, no TV! (Because you just know some nong would tune in the Footy)

(My own little club hasn't been there before, lately we've been meeting in MyCube Cafe and the Yak Bar :D )
(Of course most of my regulars aren't coming to this, they looked rather sheepish and claimed to be visiting a sick aunt on that day ... ) (Just the classy, intelligent ones remain)

I was thinking about playing in the chess tournament that afternoon at Melbourne Chess Club, which is just down the road from the place, so I might drop in around 5-6 and see what's happening.
